Manuscript Finding Aids
The Manuscripts Collection is comprised of over 600 collections of personal and family papers, business and church records, photographs, diaries, maps, oral history tapes, and similar materials. Significant collections include the William King Stubbs Architectural collection, the Marshall Harvey Twichell papers, the Israel Shreve letters, and the different collections that comprise the Camp Ruston collection.

The Mary Margaret Davis Green Collection (1931-1969; .25 linear feet) is composed of Mary Margaret’s Sigma Kappa group photos, her commencement program, and items of her father’s and mother’s. Those items are: her father’s diploma from L.P.I., a Tech Talk Special Commencement Edition, a commencement program of her mother’s, and a retrospective anniversarian booklet of Davis Brother’s Lumber Company. This collection is of special interest to anyone searching for material on the Davis Brother’s Lumber Company, Davis and Green family genealogies, the North Louisiana timber industry, and Louisiana Tech University history.

Ruston attorney Buddy Napper applied to the state legislature to establish the jurisdiction of the Louisiana Tech Campus Police department in the early 1950’s/ M.E. McFadden, Sr. was the first Chief of Security at Louisiana Tech University. He hired Prentiss Frasier and Clemon Speights. Mr. McFadden was working for the Louisiana State Police and kept his commission until the job here was well established. Collection contains photographs and memorabilia from McFadden’s time at Louisiana Tech.

Merlin W. Merrill Collection

After his death, E. S. Richardson’s daughter gave his mortarboard and commencement gown to Rev. Merrill, then pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Rev. Merrill wore the gown when he preached on Sundays until it became threadbare. He wore the mortarboard to receive his Ph.D. and in ceremonies at Centenary College, where he serves on the board of trustees.

Original records given to Tech Archives Feb. 19, 1971, by vote of the church body.
