Description
The characters of Prince Hal and Iago within Shakespeare's plays Henry IV and Othello both emulate manipulation of fellow characters in order to achieve their own goals. Termed by psychologists as 'tactical deception', the way that Iago and Prince Hal manipulate their counterparts includes private monologues with the audience, questionable relationships with shady men, the utilization of a fall guy and a target, as well as manipulating their own image within different social groups. Both characters are examples of antagonist characters who use tactical deception to gain prestige, power and their ultimate outcome.
